Catching Up

Hello Knights, it’s been a while.

Season 2 has come and gone, and since then we’ve completed our second interseason arc, Goliad Gabby, which is tonally a slight departure from our previous arcs, and added episodes to our Patreon exclusive show The Delilah Documents. Season 3 is written and mid-production, and though its progress has been slowed by life events (some good, some not so great), we are determined to bring it to you as soon as we can. We’re still a pretty small team with day jobs, so our time is limited and our priorities sometimes have to shift around to accommodate life, circumstance, and new opportunities.

One such opportunity is the publication of Jessica’s debut novel, First-Degree Magic. Our more seasoned listeners might remember that this novel was the impetus to bring The Harrowing of Minerva Damson to the world in the first place, and now we’re finally bringing the book itself into being. It’s release date is scheduled for May 6, 2025, and we’re so very excited for you all to see it!

In the meantime, it needs quite a bit of support. As Goblin Booth is a small production outfit, it’ll be a challenge to direct attention to First-Degree Magic so it gains greater visibility and reaches a larger audience. We’re reaching out to book influencers, submitting to literary review magazines (First-Degree Magic recently received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews!), and generally looking for ways to shine the spotlight on our newest/oldest creation of the Goblin Booth team. We’re also producing an audiobook for all our audiophiles out there—narrated by Jessica, naturally—which is quite a big lift! Bringing a book into the world in any format is a huge undertaking, and boy, are we trying to make it happen.

We want you, our fans who have already been on this journey with us, to see the work we’ve put into First-Degree Magic, The Harrowing of Minerva Damson, and the Joaniverse as a whole. We’ll be releasing several episodes discussing the road so far, including episodes on our experience interfacing with the publishing world, working with a sensitivity reader, developing the cover for the book, and a general primer to the world and characters of First-Degree Magic. We’ll also be releasing the first four chapters of the book to The Harrowing of Minerva Damson channel, plus an additional four to our Patrons. Depending on our resources, we hope to begin offering bookmarks, maps, flags, and other merchandise (fingers crossed it ACTUALLY HAPPENS FOR REALSIES THIS TIME) here and on our Patreon. And if you don’t have time to listen, you can always check back here, where we plan to include abbreviated versions of the behind-the-scene episodes on this blog.

We’re hoping that you all fall as much in love with First-Degree Magic as you have with The Harrowing of Minerva Damson. And if you have any ideas to help us out, feel free to reach out with suggestions! We’d love to hear about any reviewers you follow on social media you think might like First-Degree Magic, or any other opportunities that might help bring some attention to our first publication through Goblin Booth Productions.
